The Falcons have announced their first new signing of 2012, with winger/centre Tom Bedford signing from, amazingly enough, Bedford.
Although there isn’t much to be found about our new guy on the internet, some opinions from those who have seen him suggest he is a decent enough player with a lot of potential, still being in his early 20s.
Bedford played for England at several age group levels as a teenager and represented his country in the under-19 World Cup.
Here are his highlights on YouTube.
Bedford is a native of Exeter and began his career with the Chiefs before moving to the Midlands in the summer of 2010. He has scored two tries for Bedford this season, in bonus point wins at London Scottish and Plymouth in the autumn.
After training with the Falcons for the first time this morning, Bedford was apparently in contention to play against his former club Exeter at Kingston Park tomorrow, although the return of Luke Fielden to the starting line-up and Corne Uys on the bench mean he will have to wait a while before making his debut in a black shirt.
Although the way our injuries have been going this season, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see our new signing in the squad tomorrow.
